Mathilde Felter (b. 1991, Carcassonne, France) is a self-taught French-British artist working primarily with handwoven textiles. Raised between Nigeria, France, Spain and the UK, her early experiences of colour, texture and rhythm continue to inform her practice.
After training in print and embroidery in London and working alongside emerging fashion designers, she turned to fine art, developing a material-led practice rooted in weaving.
Working with natural materials such as silk, wool, linen and cotton sourced in France and the UK, her pieces are constructed by hand through a slow and tactile process of trimming, weaving and sewing. Each work evolves through making, resulting in sculptural compositions that emphasise texture, structure and presence.
She lives and works in Lagrasse, in the South of France.
Her work is currently available through Wondering People, London.
